I have had the misfortune and fortune of experiencing how
heart disease can affect people. My
mother suddenly passed-away over a decade ago from a heart attack; no warning
and no chance for my family to ‘say their goodbyes.’ This has given my family a personal and
emotional connection to the cause.
Through my profession as a first responder, I have had the pleasure of
seeing how advancements in equipment, training, and research have changed the
way first responders deal with heart and stroke issues. I can say with absolute confidence that law
enforcement and EMS are able to provide life-saving care to victims of heart
attacks and strokes far beyond what they were able to do even five years
ago. You can make a difference in your
own life and the lives of others by being a part of this cause through the
American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.
